BEAUTY

by Anna McCullough

I would have beauty be my guide
but too lazy am I to follow it
I watch it from afar
and dream of being it
but I am also content to soak in
its optic joys
Unhappiness, this would cause
you would think
but living inside your head-
well, you can have
anything you want;
you can be whoever you need
you can say anything you feel
and numbness takes care of
anything you don't like.
Beauty, though worshiped
and understood,
gives way
to the fantasy of a life.
